Medjoul Dates from Palestine – New Harvest Directly from Aljiftlik Jericho in Palestine
Sunnati Medjool dates grow in the city of Jericho in Palestine. What’s special about our Medjoul dates is that they grow naturally: This means with rainwater and the power of the sun, which creates their unique and sweet flavor. It’s not for nothing that they are known as the queen of dates, as in ancient times they were reserved only for kings and the nobility.
Today, Sunnati gives everyone the opportunity to buy and eat these delicious, juicy Medjool dates. We nevertheless ensure that our Medjoul dates are fairly traded, so that the local farmers not only benefit from them, but can also make a living from them. We are firmly against exploitation and distance ourselves from any sellers who sell Medjool dates that discriminate against the producers. So, by shopping with us, you’re doing three things good: your health, your enjoyment, and our fairness.
Production:
The premium Medjool dates from Palestine grow in fertile soils and are naturally nourished by the sun and rainwater, making them rich in vitamin D, potassium, minerals, and other micronutrients. They are natural, free from chemical additives, artificial flavors, and preservatives. This makes our dates unique because their nutrients quickly fill you up and support a healthy diet. Jumbo Medjool dates can be enjoyed raw at any time of day, making them an indispensable part of many vegan diets. However, dates also have a centuries-old culture. For Muslims, dates are a staple in every household, as they are enjoyed even outside of Ramadan. However, our premium Medjool dates are not your typical dates.
Our dates are hand-sorted and hand-packed in 1 kg and 5 kg cardboard boxes.
Date Harvest
Our dates always come from the current harvest, which takes place once a year between September, October, and November. They are always fresh. At the beginning of the harvest, they are naturally a little softer and become slightly drier from month to month, as the Medjool dates preserve themselves. The dates can be brown to black in color and often have a slight gray tinge. This gray color puts some people off, as they think it’s dust or mold. However, it’s a natural “dust layer” that develops, like grapes, due to the changing weather conditions (rain and sun). This demonstrates, among other things, that no pesticides are used and the products are 100% natural. King dates are almost impossible to mold unless they are stored very poorly.
It takes several years before the Medjool dates can be harvested annually. The date harvest can only take place after five years, as this is when a date palm first bears fruit. However, a single date palm can live up to 100 years or even longer. Such palms grow up to 25 meters tall. Small date palms are also often seen, which are usually young and under 25 years old. However, these are easier to harvest because they are not quite as tall.
The older and larger date palms make harvesting more difficult for farmers, as the dates are only at the top and therefore very tall. This is one of the many reasons why the Medjool date is called the queen of dates.
Unlike apple trees, for example, the fruits are not individually distributed throughout the tree, but rather only at the very top, and several Medjoul dates are attached to a large, thick palm branch, beneath which are individual date branches. Harvesting the dates takes time, labor, and energy, making the harvest more difficult each year, and in the heat, farmers often reach their limits. For this reason alone, we trade fairly and support the farmers with fair prices. We are clearly against exploitation and want to distance ourselves from cheap, inferior, and unethical product distributors.

Are Dates Healthy?
Dates are very healthy because they contain many valuable minerals. Their vitamin content, which provides the body with important nutrients, should not be underestimated. They are known among Arabs for strengthening the immune system, which is why they are eaten daily in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.), according to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. They are most commonly consumed during the fasting month of Ramadan, but many date lovers also enjoy them as a daily sweet treat.

Premium Medjool dates prefer a cool, dry place. They should be stored away from light and not exposed to direct heat. Storage and shelf life:
Premium Medjool dates prefer a cool, dry place. They should be stored away from light and not exposed to direct heat. Next to the stove is not a good place, as it is very warm there and there are strong temperature fluctuations. Medjool dates can be easily stored in the refrigerator without any harm. Even in the refrigerator, Medjool dates are safe because their high fructose content prevents them from freezing.
This means they stay fresh and simply need to be “warmed up” again later at room temperature.
Unlike apples, for example, Medjool dates have a low water content, which is why the flesh of Medjool dates isn’t affected by the refrigerator. They remain edible and stay fresh for a long time. They can also be refrigerated until their best-before date.
Otherwise, make sure that Medjool dates are stored in our packaging so that they stay fresh and tasty, even if they are “only” stored outside the refrigerator in a cool, dry place. This way, they would last for about 6 months.
Due to the fasting month of Ramadan, more Medjool dates are ordered and stored during Ramadan. Since Ramadan is currently close to summer, we have a few quick tips for you. Premium Medjool dates should always be stored in a cool, dry place, and away from light, especially in summer.
You can easily store them in the refrigerator at 2-8°C or freeze them.
This doesn’t affect the fruit, as Medjools don’t freeze due to their high fructose content. This means you can preserve the dates for at least a year and wait for sunset during Ramadan without worry. We wish you bon appetit and a delicious break of fasting!
Current best before date: See side of packaging.
Consumption recommendation:
We recommend enjoying our Medjool dates on their own. Especially in the morning, they provide enough energy to start the day with strength. Eat 1-3 of them in the morning. We also recommend eating them as a healthy snack between meals instead of eating unhealthy, sugary sweets.
They are suitable as a post-workout meal for all martial artists and strength athletes. After training, glycogen stores are depleted, and energy is needed quickly.
Due to the high carbohydrate content and natural sugar content in Medjool dates, these energy sources provide quickly available energy.
This is especially important after training to replenish glycogen stores, as otherwise the proteins would be used for this purpose—in short, the muscles. This is precisely what we want to avoid, which is why fruit or Medjool dates are ideal for this.
They can be easily transported in a box without becoming mushy, like bananas, for example.
Be careful when eating! Medjoul dates should be eaten carefully, as they contain a stone that is inedible. You should take small bites or remove the stone before eating Medjool dates. Simply take a small bite and remove the stone, or cut them open and remove the stone beforehand. This way, the Medjool dates can be eaten immediately or enhanced with a walnut.
